When Writer’s Block Shows Up Uninvited

Have you ever had one of those days where your brain just… refuses to cooperate? Like when you know you should be doing the thing, but the thing just isn’t happening? That’s writer’s block for me.

It’s not glamorous. It’s more like an unwanted guest showing up at your home when all you want is to be left alone. Loud, pushy, and definitely not on the invite list.

For me, it usually happens because:

  • I want the words to be perfect right away.

  • I’m juggling too many ideas at once.

  • Or life just gets messy, and the inspiration dries up.

And here’s the truth—I also put a ton of pressure on myself. I told myself I had to finish Book 2 by a certain time because I didn’t want to keep you waiting. But then it hit me… my first book, When Darkness Falls, only came out June 30th. That’s not even three months ago! Before rushing ahead, I need to give myself space to celebrate this first milestone and get Book 1 into even more hands.

When writer’s block shows up, I don’t force it. Instead, I:

  • Step away. Watch a show, dive into a book, or just let myself breathe.

  • Play with the story in my head. Sometimes I’ll talk through scenes out loud (my dog is my unwilling audience).

  • Trust the pause. Writer’s block isn’t a sign I’ve lost it—it’s just my brain asking for a reset.

So if you’re waiting for Book 2—thank you. Truly. It’s coming, but I also want to do right by Book 1, give it time to reach more readers, and not rush the story that’s still unfolding.

In the meantime, if you’ve read When Darkness Falls, the best way to help me battle this “unwanted guest” is to share it—leave a review, tell a friend, or post about it. Every little thing keeps me inspired and pushes me through the blocks.
